Ribbing patterns in knitting don’t just have to be made up of knits and purls. You can easily add other elements to them to help them make a bigger impact on your fabric and add beautiful decorative elements. In this video, Jen Lucas demonstrates how to work two interesting—and easy—decorative ribbed pattern. She first demonstrates a large eyelet ribbing pattern and then explains a simple cable rib pattern.
LARGE EYELET RIB
Jen works this stitch pattern over a multiple of 4 plus 2 stitches as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *P2, k4; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 2 (WS): *K2, p4; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: *P2, k2tog, yo twice, ssk; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 4: *K2, p1, (p1, k1) into double yo, p1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Rep Rows 1–4 for pattern.
CABLE RIB
Jen works this stitch pattern over a multiple of 4 plus 2 stitches as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *P2, k4; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 2 (WS): *K2, p4; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: *P2, 2/2 RC; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
