In this first session, knitting designer Jen Lucas introduces the course and discusses what to expect in the subsequent sessions.
Jen demonstrates how to knit a mitered square by casting on an odd number of stitches – the most common way to work these squares in knitting.
In this session, Jen explains how to knit a mitered square by casting on an even number of stitches. Rather than using a central double decrease to shape the square, she uses two single decreases – k2tog and ssk.
It’s time to add some color! In this session, Jen demonstrates how to work a two-color striped mitered square, where the colors are changed every two rows.
In this session, Jen examines some different color-blocked mitered squares and discusses how they are constructed.
Once you’ve made a bunch of mitered squares, it’s time to seam them together. Jen explains some different ways to seam your mitered squares in this session.
Don’t want to seam all those mitered squares together? No problem – in this session, Jen demonstrates how to join the squares as you go.
In this bonus session, Jen explains how to add a simple single crochet border to your mitered square project.

Knitting mitered squares is the perfect “potato chip knitting” project. They are so fun to knit, it’s almost impossible to knit just one. These squares can be joined together as you go or seamed together once all the squares are complete. In this class, knit designer Jen Lucas teaches you all the basics you need to know on knitting mitered squares. She’ll show you how to work the squares with different stitch counts, how to introduce stripes and color into your blocks, and how to seam them together or join as you go.
