Mary Beth Temple
Duration:   2  mins

When you have one special skein of yarn and you want to use every inch of it. but also wish it was a big thicker, you can use this chain plying technique to stitch as you go. If you need the full skein you can use every inch of it, but if you don't when you are finished knitting at the thicker weight you have the partial skein left over in its original weight! Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple and I wanna share with you a little trick if I have the color of yarn that I want, but it's far too thin. It is not the weight that I want, but I've only got the one skein. So, what am I gonna do? Well, aside from go to the store, I'm going to try and avoid that. So, the first thing I'm going to do is I am going to make a very loose slipknot and I'm talking very loose slipknot, make it several inches long.

So now I'm going to grab my yarn here, which is sort of a light wasted. I'm gonna pull it through the loop and extend, pull the working yarn through the loop and extend. If you are a crocheter, what you're essentially doing here is making the longest loosest crochet chain you can think of. So now I'm getting ready to knit my project. I wanna make sure that that slip knot is not involved in my project.

I'm gonna leave that hanging off the end and I can weave that in. So I'm gonna go ahead and knit with my three strands together and then I will get the bulky weight that I want. Now, the reason this is better than trying to divide this into three balls and braid them together or what have you is it's less tedious and involves less preparation. If I am going to divide a ball of yarn into three equal balls, I have to get out the kitchen scale or what have you this way because I'm only using one ball of yarn, but I'm having it come off the working yarn as I knit. When I run out, I run out and it will be the same.

So I got to the end of my section. I'll just pull up some more yarn. Got to the end of my section, pull off some more yarn. Especially if I only want to use this for an accent color. When I'm done.

I can just cut the yarn and I'm done and I still have my one ball of yarn left that I started with. Once again, I'm Mary Beth Temple and I hope you enjoy this little trick.
