Quick Tip: I Cord
Mary Beth TempleKnitting i-cord is a lot of fun, and you can use i-cord in a variety of ways from replacing missing drawstrings, to using variations as a cast-on or a bind-off. It can be knit on a multiple of stitches from 3 to 6 or 7, but it MUST be knit on DPNs or circular knitting needles – straight needles will not work! Mary Beth Temple used 3 stitches in the video – cast on 3 stitches, do not turn, *slide the 3 stitches from the left side of the needle they are resting on to the right side, bring the working yarn behind the work, k3, giving an extra tug to the first stitch to prevent laddering. Rep from * and that is all their is to it! Now that you are i-cord pro, you can check out this i-cord cast-on, or this i-cord bind-off.
Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple. Are you a knitter? Did you lose the drawstring in your hoodie? Let's make some cord real quick and we can fix that right up. Now, you don't want to have a whole lot of stitches on your needle.
Traditionally, it's done with three and you want to use double pointed needles or a circular needle. This does not work on straight knitting needles. This is one of those techniques. It's really easy to do. But if you read the written, the written instructions, it seems like you're reading Martian.
So I'm going to net three because that's how many stitches I have. I'm going to slide my stitches from the left hand side of the needle to the right hand side of the needle so I can knit them again. I'm never turning. I'm gonna take this yarn my working yarn around the back of the eye cord and just knit the next three stitches. Now, when you knit the first stitch of every round, you wanna give it a good tug.
Otherwise it can latter and not look very neat. There's my three stitches. I just finished them, gonna slide them to the right hand side of the needle to bring the working yarn around the back knit, those three stitches, slide them to the other side. So do not turn, tug your yarn super tight on the first stitch and then you can just bind off all three together. You can use an SK two P whatever floats your boat to bind off those stitches when your cord is long enough.
But now you can replace any missing cord in your home or wardrobe.
