Quick Tip: Picking Up Multiple Dropped Stitches
Mary Beth TempleIt has happened to all of us - you put your work down and somehow multiple stitches have dropped off of your needles and you need to do a rescue!
The first thing you need to do is to stop each stitch from unraveling further so use a DPN, locking stitch marker, or whatever else you have to hand to keep the stitches from dropping. Then use a crochet hook to bring each stitch back up to the top by grabbing the next "rung on the ladder" - the next horizontal strand, in order.
Begin with the dropped stitch closest to either knitting needle and work your way across, one at a time. Any irregularities will block right out.

Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple. And we have all been faced with this tragedy where your project got away from you and so did a bunch of stitches. The first thing I want you to do is lock those stitches down. You don't want them to pull out any farther than they already have. So you can use a double pointed needle like I did here or perhaps you have a locking stitch marker like I do here.
You could use a paper clip, a binder clip, a coffee swizzle stick, whatever you have. But you wanna grab those stitches before they get away from you. Now, I like to pick up my stitches with a crochet hook and it doesn't matter that the crochet hook size is different from the size of the knitting needle. So you're just going to put your hook in that live loop, go to the next rung of the ladder and pull it through, do that until you get to the top and put it on the left hand needle with the right leg of the stitch facing forward so you can knit it again. Now, if you're having a try, hard time figuring out, which rung comes next.
All you need to do is spread the two sides apart and they will pop up right in order.
