If you are a newer knitter and you had to put your work down in a hurry, when you come back you might have to take a moment to figure out which direction you were headed in! The easiest way is to figure out which side the working yarn is coming from and back track from there. If you have to rip out though, check out this very thorough video from knitting expert Ann Budd on how to rip back safely!

Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple. And sometimes my friends say to me, I have put my project aside. I walked away to do whatever it was I had to do. I came back and I have no idea which way is which and what I'm supposed to do next. So Mary Beth, what is your tip that you can help me?

So, the first thing I recommend now, in this case, we have somebody who put their project down in the middle of the row. The first thing I'll recommend to you is if you have any chance to finish the row, it's always best to put your project aside at the end of the row. Because if you put it aside in the middle, sometimes what will happen is that stitch will get stretched out, but sometimes you just can't do that. The kid got out of school, the doorbell rang. So what I want you to do is find the working yarn, find the yarn that is attached to the ball of yarn and make it so that the knitting needle with the, with the working yarn attached goes in your right hand.

If you're right handed or in your left hand, which is left handed because if you're a right handed knitter, the working yarn is always in your right hand that will at least get you to that point of the pro. Now, if you're doing a stitch pattern, at that point, you're gonna have to look at the pattern, count the stitches that you had, whether they're knit or pearl or you aren't over and, and figure out where you are in the pattern from that, but at least you can get your right side, wrong side going and know the direction that you were heading in.
