Knitting stitch dictionaries are such a wonderful resource for stitch patterns and inspiration. Most of them work perfectly for knitting blanket projects. In this video, knitting expert Jen Lucas shows you two simple-yet-stunning stitch patterns that you can use in your own blanket projects

TEXTURED CUBES

The first stitch pattern that Jen demonstrates is the Textured Cubes stitch pattern. It’s worked over a multiple of 6 plus 1 stitches—this stitch count is for the actual stitch pattern itself. You’ll need to add additional stitches for any side-edge border you want to include in your knitted blanket.

The stitch pattern is worked as follows:

Row 1 (RS): Knit all sts.
Row 2 (WS): *K1, p5; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rows 3 – 6: Rep Rows 1 & 2 twice. 4 rows
Row 7: Rep Row 1.
Row 8: *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Rep Rows 1 – 8 for pattern.

KNIT & PURL DIAGONALS

The second stitch pattern shown is the Knit & Purl Diagonals stitch pattern. This is a particularly good stitch pattern for blankets, as both the Right Side and Wrong Side look very similar. The stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of 8 stitches—once again, you’ll need to add any additional stitches for a border on each side edge, if desired.

The stitch pattern is worked as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *K4, p4; rep from * to end.
Row 2 (WS): *K3, p4, k1; rep from * to end.
Row 3: *P2, k4, p2; rep from * to end.
Row 4: *K1, p4, k3; rep from * to end.
Row 5: *P4, k4; rep from * to end.
Row 6: *P3, k4, p1; rep from * to end.
Row 7: *K2, p4, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 8: *P1, k4, p3; rep from * to end.

Rep Rows 1 – 8 for pattern, ending with Row 1 or 5.
