Sock Toe: Star
Mary Beth TempleThe star toe for knit socks is very easy to learn, and gives you a toe box with a gradual decrease that ends with drawing up the last few stitches – thus avoiding the Kitchener stitch. To knit the star toe, work your sock pattern as written, then make any adjustments necessary to get to a stitch count that is divisible by 4. Distribute your stitches onto four double pointed needles. Alternate decrease rounds, in which you work a k2tog at the end of each needle (4 sts decreased in each round) with a work even knit round (no decreases) 6 times, then a decrease round every time until 8 sts remain. Thread the tail in a tapestry needle, run the needle through all 8 sts, draw tight to close and end off. Check out more tips on knitting socks on double pointed needles here.
